There are basically 2 different types of spiders in North Texas. Some spiders are called “web building spiders” because they spin webs and live near their webs in case they catch their prey. The other type is known as the “hunting spider.” The hunting spider will travel for their hunting ground.

Spider Infestation FAQs in Frisco

How Do I Get Rid of Cellar Spiders?

Cellar spiders are thin, pale-colored spiders that are easily identifiable for their particularly long legs. Generally, these spiders are actually rather harmless and do some good in most homes—they tend to eat other insects, including other spiders like black widows and the brown recluse spider. They tend to live in a tangled web while hanging upside down.

However, it’s not uncommon for these spiders to take up residence in dark, damp areas like crawlspaces, basements, and cellars, as well as garages in some homes. Much like with other spiders, they can be kept out by carefully and meticulously sealing gaps in your home’s exterior and other hotspots like plumbing lines. They can also be kept at bay by simply keeping their food supply to a minimum.

Flying insects like gnats or flies serve as a great food source for spiders, and thus spiders tend to take up residence in places that will consistently supply them with sustenance. Keeping other insects at bay and using yellow lightbulbs that attract fewer bugs will do wonders for keeping your spider population down.

What Do I Do About a Brown Recluse Spider Infestation?

Brown recluse spiders are a particularly nasty species that is commonly found throughout warmer weather climates across the southern United States. Unlike the wolf spider, a brown recluse spider has a “fiddle-shaped” abdomen and distinct tan or khaki color. However, much like the wolf spider, they can be extremely aggressive when threatened. Brown recluse bites can be extraordinarily painful and potentially even fatal for small pets and animals.

A brown recluse spider infestation is something that should be dealt with by a professional. However, you may not even know you have this problem because of the spider’s reclusive nature. They frequently build their nests well out of sight and in secluded areas where they are not likely to be disturbed. While this makes them difficult to spot, our trained professionals know how to locate them and can deal with the infestation properly. If you spot a brown recluse in your home, you should have your home inspected professionally right away to determine if the problem may be worse than you initially thought.

As you may have expected, there are dozens of ways a spider can find their way into the average home, and there’s a good chance they’re sneaking in through one of these methods when you aren’t paying attention. Here are a few ways you can minimize the way spiders can sneak into your home:

  • Seal cracks. Look around windows, doorframes, light fixtures, and ceiling fans for cracks or small gaps that spiders can use to break into your home. If you find any gaps, seal them with caulk or replace things like weather stripping to make sure that all gaps are completely blocked off. Remember, spiders can sneak in through even the smallest of gaps, so don’t be afraid to put a thick, high-quality seal over these gaps. (This will also significantly improve energy efficiency as well.)
  • Seal gaps around pipes. Plumbing lines move in and out of walls around your home, and these gaps are probably the number-one reason for your insect intrusion problem. In some cases, you can use caulk to seal these gaps but in others you may need to use things like extra insulation or other methods to seal a larger gap where a liquid sealant isn’t plausible.
  • Place sticky traps near doorways and in other hotspots. Sticky traps designed for cockroaches and other larger insects can help with spider problems too. Place these traps out of the reach of children or pets in areas near doorways, beneath furniture, and behind or around appliances like your dishwasher, washing machine, or refrigerator. Insects are usually attracted to these areas, so putting a trap out ahead of time can keep them from getting any further in your home.
